Nearly two thousand Marquesans from all eight inhabited islands gathered in Vaitahu Valley for the 2006 Matava’a iti, a week-long koina, or celebration of traditional dancing, singing, feasting, and friendship. The venue was Tohua Taupoto, Vaitahu’s ancient public assembly and dance ground, which AFAR helped restore to its original glory.
